ENGO Announces engo3 Cyclist AR Smart Glasses
ENGO, a developer of augmented reality sports eyewear, has announced the engo3 Cyclist, a pair of smart glasses designed for road and gravel cyclists. The model is a cycling version of the company’s engo3 heads-up display glasses and uses ActiveLook technology.
The heads-up display places training data directly within the rider’s field of view. This allows cycling information to remain visible without the rider having to look down at a bike computer. The glasses support more than 40 data points, alongside cycling-specific widgets for power zone tracking and overtaking vehicle alerts.
The cycling model retains the heads-up display format of the existing engo3 glasses while adding cycling-specific data screens and bike radar alerts for vehicles approaching from behind.
The dedicated cycling display includes power zones, heart rate zones and estimated watts. Power zones appear in real time using red, yellow and green colour coding. Company specifications describe the system as using the same colour coding found on professional cyclists’ dashboards. The power display covers zones 1 to 7.
Data screens can be customised through the companion app. A double-tap control allows the rider to switch between screens during a ride. The glasses also synchronise in real time with structured workouts on Garmin devices.
The engo3 Cyclist also integrates with Garmin-compatible bike radars, including the Garmin Varia range. The radar function provides alerts for the distance and speed of vehicles approaching from behind. Those alerts are displayed directly within the rider’s field of view.
When a vehicle approaches, the alert appears within the heads-up display. The timing of the display is linked to the speed of the approaching vehicle. Faster-moving vehicles cause the notification to appear sooner.
The cycling model measures 140 mm wide and 60 mm high. ENGO’s running glasses measure 137 mm wide and 58 mm high. The cycling version therefore uses different dimensions from the running model.
Company specifications describe the wider cycling geometry as modelled on cycling standards and optimised for aerodynamics. The same specifications associate the design with full wind protection and stability while riding. The temples are designed to fit comfortably under a cycling helmet. Both the temples and the nose pads are adjustable.
The glasses carry an IP55 resistance rating. Company specifications cover exposure to sweat, rain and road spray. Battery life is listed at more than 20 hours.
Compatibility includes Garmin watches and a range of Garmin Edge devices. The radar integration operates over Bluetooth 5.4.
The engo3 Cyclist is available through the ENGO website. The standard version is priced at €349.95, $399.95 and £299.95 in the currencies listed by the company. The photochromic version is priced at €399.95, $449.95 and £349.95.
The glasses are available in all colours offered across the engo3 range. The options are Stride in dark crystal green, Brilliant White, Matte Black and Kenya. The photochromic version is offered with a white frame.
Each version uses high-definition panoramic lenses. The lenses are impact-resistant and optimised for ambient light. The photochromic lenses cover categories 0 to 3 and adapt automatically to changing light levels.
